Error Type: Equipment failure
While on a drift & measure job at an undisclosed location work over rig, the condition of rig tape in field use for workover rig was discovered.
Because of the common practice of taping flat sticks to the heel of the rig tape, over time & use the inaccuracy increases.
At the time of its discovery, this set up was creating measurements up to 2 inches longer then actual lengths
Over time, with repeated use, the heel (or stopping point) of the tape has broken off, making a hard starting point for measurements impossible.
